Health Minister says there are obstacles in determining SL's healthy population

Health Minister Maithreepala Sirisena says there are obstacles in determining the number of healthy citizens in the country.

The minister made this statement while participating at a function in Colombo on Wednesday.

'The main yardstick of development in a developing country is the standard of health of its citizens. Our country's malnutrition level is at 20 percent. On the other hand, new reports are coming in about overweight children, which is said to account for 10 percent of school children. Then again 15 to 20 percent of citizens are estimated to have high blood pressure and diabetes. It is difficult to determine the healthy population due to these kinds of diseases,' stated Health Minister Maithreepala Sirisena.
