The World Teachers Day is celebrated today.
The theme for World Teachers Day this year is A Call for Teachers.
The World Teachers day that was declared by the UNESCO was celebrated for the first time in Sri Lanka on October 6, 1994.
Secretary to the Ministry of Education Anura Dissanayake said that 850 graduates will be given their teaching appointments in Colombo today in celebration of World Teachers Day.
Meanwhile, General Secretary of the Sri Lanka Teachers Union Joseph Stalin said that the teachers in the country face a number of problems including salary anomalies.
When NewsFirst inquired in to the matter, the Secretary to the Ministry of Education Anura Dissanayake said that a committee has been appointed to resolve the salary anomalies.
