Five people drowned after a boat overturned off the seas of Mannar this afternoon, the Navy said.
The fishing boat had been used by 16 people to go sightseeing out at sea when it capsized.
The Navy said that 11 people were rescued while the bodies of four people were initially recovered.
One child was missing and a search operation had been launched by navy divers to look for the child.
The body of the child was later found.
