» » No government helicopters for election campaign

The use of helicopters and aircraft at the public expense for election campaigns has been prohibited.
Issuing a Circular to the Heads of Government Departments, Corporations and Statutory Boards including the Secretaries to the President and the Prime Minister, Election Commissioner Mahinda Deshapriya said that he received complaints about the use of helicopters, aircraft and government vehicles for election campaigns in the past.

The Commissioner therefore informed the Government Officials to maintain the vehicle reserves accurately and allow no political or independent party to use state property for their personal propaganda during the election.

The Commissioner has also informed the officials not to use school buildings, state office buildings and any other state building for election campaigns.

He has also banned politicians using the State circuit bungalows, Rest houses and Holiday homes free of charge during the election.

The Election Commissioner further informed the State officials not to allow politicians to hold various mobile services and exhibitions at the state expense during the election period.
