Rehearsals for a new traffic flow would get underway today (6) as the government prepares to extend the uni-flow system which has proved to be successful in other parts of Colombo.
As part of this experiment vehicles would be required to go round the De Soysa roundabout via Kannangara Mawatha, F.R. Senanayake Mawatha, Dharmapala Mawatha and back to the De Soysa roundabout via Lipton Circus..
The rest of the arrangements are as follows-:
1. Vehicles coming from Union Place would not be allowed to turn towards Dharmapala Mawatha via the Lipton Circus roundabout. Instead these vehicle would have to travel around the Lipton Circus, De Soysa roundabouts before turning down Kannangara Mawatha and then onto F.R. Senanayake Mawatha and back to Kannangara Moad.
2. Vehicle coming from Deans Road and Ward Place would not be allowed to travel directly towards Union Place but would have to circle around the Lipton Circus and De Soysa roundabouts before heading down Kannangara Mawatha and head on towards Dharmapala via F.R. Senanayake Mw. These vehicles can then head towards Union Place after going down Dharmapala Mw. and circling the Lipton Circus roundabout.
3. Vehicles travelling towards Deans Road, Ward Place and Union Place from the Nelum Pokuna Junction should travel along F.R. Senanayaka Mawatha, Dharmapala Mawatha via Lipton Circus.
4. Vehicles going towards Kannangara Mawatha and Town Hall from the Pittala Junction and Dharmapala Mawatha should go around Lipton Circus and De Soysa roundabout before reaching their destination. Vehicles travelling towards Town Hall meanwhile should enter F.R. Senanayake Mawatha via Kannangara Mawatha.
