The Ministry of Higher Education has decided to construct hostel facilities for approximately 12,000 university students.
Secretary to the Minstry of Higher Education, Dr. Sunil Jayantha Navaratne noted that the ministry plans to construct a total of 60 hostels for this purpose.
Dr. Sunil Jayantha Navaratne further stated,
“Usually hostels facilities are given to first year and 3rd year students. A total of 12,000 students are due to enter the university system over the next two years. In order to meet the requirement for accommodation we will be constructing 60 hotels which can house 200 children each. We intend vesting these hostels with the public once they have been constructed.”
