The Persons Registration Department says that it has plans to issue electronic National Identity Cards by 2015Commissioner of Persons Registration R.M.S.Sarath Kumara said that tenders have already been called in this regard.
Accordingly, he said the preparation of the new electronic IDs will be commence within the next six months.
He said that this will be carried out following the creation of a database containing information on all citizens.
Heavy security systems will also be utilized in the creation of the new ID cards.
